Four Families of the Fallen is a community theatre project commemorating the centenary of the end of the GREAT WAR.

Over the coming months we will devise and perform four ORIGINAL plays about the families of the servicemen named on the wooden Roll of Honour, which is displayed in St James’ Parish Church, Weybridge, Surrey, UK.

Our short dramatisations are all inspired by REAL PEOPLE and based on TRUE EVENTS.

Supported by The RC Sherriff Trust, we will perform these play in different locations around the Borough of Elmbridge: Walton, Esher and Weybridge over the weekend of September 8th / 9th 2018.

COMPLETED

Working collaboratively, using improvisation, storytelling tools and techniques, combined with historical research, participants will devise scripts for four character-led plays.

COMPLETED

Using the scripts they develop, performers will step into the shoes of the Weybridge residents, who lived in the town back in 1918; exploring their losses, the effect on the community and coming to terms with what has happened.

COMPLETED

Participants will then perform the plays they have created at public venues across Elmbridge, during the summer of this final year of events marking the centenary of the Great War.

The stories behind Four Families

The stimulus for each of our plays comes from 12 original character backstories, which were all inspired by real people, historical records and newspaper reports.

Each of the four backstories challenges preconceptions about the Home Front life and highlights the views and realities of four different families in the closing months of the First World War.
